The Challenges of Coffee Packaging
Oxygen, moisture, light, and heat are the main factors that effective coffee packaging must block to preserve the product’s freshness, while ensuring environmental sustainability in accordance with the new PPWR regulations.
- Storage and Barriers: Roasted coffee releases carbon dioxide and reacts with oxygen; the packaging must protect it to prevent rancidity.
- Sustainability and new EU regulations (PPWR): By 2030, all packaging must be recyclable, with specific targets for coffee capsules (by 2035).
- Moisture management: High moisture levels in the packaging can cause coffee grounds to stick to the machinery.
To overcome these challenges, the industry is moving toward single-material or compostable materials that maintain high barrier performance.
Triplex Pods
Triplex pods: PET / Aluminum / PE. Since its launch, GustoSoave has adopted our packaging as its production standard.
Triplex Coffee Pack
Triplex for coffee packages, with a complete barrier guaranteed by the combination of aluminum and poly-laminates.
Uanema — More Than Just Printing
Uanema Caffè requested a fully transparent, eco-sustainable material with barrier performance equivalent to aluminum, in compliance with Italian regulations.
We developed a new transparent laminate with barrier properties comparable to those of aluminum, while maintaining the product’s shelf visibility.
